When you only have 10 minutes to get dinner going on busy nights, start this super quick one pan spaghetti. It’s creamy, protein-rich, and full of nutrients you feel good about feeding the family.
This recipe was inspired by two things: My One Pan Lazy Lasagna and Meghan Markle’s spaghetti she featured on her Netflix series. I took elements from both recipes and elevated them with tons of flavour and protein from Italian sausage and chicken broth.
Why you will love this quick recipe
- You can have it prepped in 10 minutes and walk away
- It’s creamy and flavourful without jarred sauce
- It is versatile – use whatever protein and veggies you like
- It is a good source of protein from sausage and chicken broth
- It cooks in one pan for easy cleanup!!
- You can make it with just a handful of ingredients
Key ingredients you will need
- Fresh tomatoes
- Mushrooms
- Fresh or frozen spinach
- Fresh garlic cloves
- Chicken broth
- Italian sausage (hot or sweet)
- Parmesan cheese
- Dry spaghetti

How to make one pot pasta
Heat some olive oil in a Dutch oven or deep pan wide enough to fit dry spaghetti. If you don’t have one this size, break the spaghetti in half
Crumble the sausage by removing it from its casing and brown it in the pan. Add in minced garlic and cook together for a few minutes. The sausage doesn’t need to cook 100% because it will be boiling soon with the other ingredients
Add in loosely chopped tomatoes, mushrooms, and the dry spaghetti. Pour the chicken broth over everything and place a lid on the pan. Increase the heat to medium-high so that the broth comes to a boil. Cook everything together for 7-10 minutes. Check the spaghetti half way through cooking and give it a stir to make sure it isn’t sticking together and that it is immersed in the boiling broth
When the spaghetti is cooked to your liking, add in fresh or frozen spinach and 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese. Turn the heat off and let the spaghetti thicken as it cools for a few minutes
Serve with additional parmesan cheese and basil (optional)
NOTE: I didn’t add any additional salt or pepper because the chicken broth and sausage provided both. Adjust the salt and pepper to your liking if you are using low sodium broth or sweet Italian sausage.
